Hiding the Truth: Work Injuries

admin_williamkropach

Blue collar work is the heart of this country. As a society we cannot function without our homes or places of work being built, our roadways renovated, our food served, or our groceries stocked. These jobs require to rely on excelled skilled based learning. For example, the entertainment industry relies heavily on skilled workers to get the right shot for the explosive scene. They rely on stunt persons to get hit in the right way or to fall in the right way to shock and awe the viewer. These kinds of jobs require a lot of physical dependability and, at times, receive little to no respect or worse go unacknowledged. It’s understandable that these workers take on a certain risk, but this risk should never result in death. Unfortunately, it does and without the right representation, you can be left with little to no compensation or acknowledgment.

Such is the case of the crew members who are responsible for making our Friday night movie experience unforgettable. In an Associated Press report, they discovered that at least 43 people died onset in the U.S. An estimated 150 are with life altering injuries. Internationally, there have been at least 37 deaths in filming since 2000. There is no count for the many that are seriously injured. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is responsible for gathering data and reports of these incidents. The issue discovered by Associated Press is that not ALL incidents are being recorded. In fact, they found that there were several instances where “major accidents” were not in the database at all.

Why is this important?

Accidents, injuries, and deaths (if not caused by oneself) need to be brought to court if the conduct was done in a negligent matter. In 1982, in Santa Clarita, a helicopter crashed causing three actors to die. These deaths were reported and since then new safety standards have been implemented.  When dealing with on-the-job accidents it is more than just your lawsuit. Your accident can help change policy; thus, helping future employees safety.

When you stand up for your self you are creating a message to businesses and corporations that your life matters and it can create change in your work environment for future employees. Let our Law Offices of Kroprach & Kroprach in Santa Clarita stand with you and support you by representing you in court.
